When the nerve of your tooth becomes infected, a successful root canal treatment lets you keep the tooth rather than having to pull it out. Keeping your tooth helps to prevent your other teeth from drifting out of line and causing jaw problems. Saving a natural tooth avoids having to replace it with an artificial tooth.

The goal of root canal treatment is to save the tooth and restore the tooth’s state, function and comfort. Root canal therapy is the removal of diseased tissue (infected pulp) from inside the tooth and subsequently cleaning, filling and sealing the root canal spaces in order to minimize the chances of future infection.

After having an endodontic procedure, a crown is almost always needed, to reinforce the biting part of the tooth and seal out future decay. Occasionally, we must also place a post in the tooth to reinforce it against fracture.
